HALF-DRUNK BLUES

Half-drunk this morning
Half-drunk at noon
Half-drunk this evening
And I hope to be drunk soon

Brother don’t you bother me
I’m almost there
When I arrive, if I’m alive
I won’t have a single care

I hoped for prosperity
But I could not get along
Every good thing that I done
Somehow turned out wrong

The wages that they paid
Never opened up no doors
And every day I sank
A little lower than the day before

I feel something’s happening
But it just don’t seem right
To have the will to live
But not the appetite

I’m trying to kill the demon
Walking in my shoes
Until then my only friend
Is these half-drunk blues

I call for me a whiskey
I call for me a beer
And thank God that’s she’s gone
So she don’t see me here

All these bar-room women
And these lonesome men
Gonna carry me to the graveyard
And come right back here again

Half-drunk this morning
Half-drunk at noon
Half-drunk this evening
And I hope to be drunk soon

Brother don’t you bother me
I’m almost there
When I arrive, if I’m alive
I won’t have a single care
