HAILING DOWN THE SUN

I did not know to start anew
Each depth grew darker yet
A shadow play inside a dream
Bound by regret

Each dream slid in mute cascade
To fix oblivion
Still I awoke unafraid
Hailing down the sun

As through fields of yarrowed gold
Innocence was undone
I spoke not once but looked back
To where I had come from

Then through thickets of sweetest dreams
My reverie scarce begun
I awoke in fields of grass
Hailing down the sun

Hailing down the sun, hailing down the sun

We moved along the shadowed strand
Inside darkest night
Caught at last unaware
Each soul transcribed in light

The savage arc our fears described
In constellation
Obliterated at long last
We were hailing down the sun

Memory forsaken at last for all
In dismal shadowed trance
As belief bereft of soul
Left our fate to chance

But come, don’t look away
That time is plainly done
As we wake from a dream
Hailing down the sun

Hailing down the sun, hailing down the sun
