GET BEHIND ME SATAN

Down in the desert
Jesus went to pray
And to fast for
Forty lonesome days

When he was weak with hunger
And thirst caused him pain
Walking like a man
Satan unto Jesus came   

Satan tempted Jesus
In the wilderness
Saying “All earthly treasure
I can give you this

If Thou but worship me
All will be thine”
Jesus said to Satan
“Satan get behind” 

Get behind me Satan
Satan get behind

Satan get behind  

I come to heal the sick
Give eyesight to the blind
Get behind me Satan
Satan get behind   

Satan said to Jesus
“I wish not to offend
And so my humble offer
Let me make again

If Thou but makest bread
Of the barren stone
Yours shall be my kingdom
Yours shall be my throne” 

Jesus said to Satan
“Yes it is well known
Man lives not
By bread alone

But by The Word
My Father’s Word divine  
Get behind me Satan
Satan get behind”

I come to raise the dead
Give eyesight to the blind
Get behind me Satan
Satan get behind   

Satan said to Jesus
“I ask you once again
Show me you
Are a savior to men

And like God command
If you only dare
A band of angels
To hoist you through the air” 

Jesus said to Satan
“Tempt not the Lord thy God”
And before these words of fire
Satan fell in awe

Trembling he fled
By God’s holy sign
Get behind me Satan
